1. A Leadership Journey Shaped by Data and AI
Your career has spanned data strategy, artificial intelligence, cloud technologies, and enterprise transformation. Looking back, what experiences have most influenced your leadership philosophy and your approach to helping organizations unlock value from data?
A:
Data is the fuel: AI is useless without reliable data and Human Intelligence to guide them. Now moving beyond "Data as Fuel" to "Data as the Contextual Engine for Agency."
Over the course of my career guiding enterprises through cloud and digital transformations, the most definitive lesson I have learned is that advanced algorithms are entirely hollow without a rock-solid data foundation and the human intelligence required to steer them. Data is the ultimate fuel for the modern enterprise, but raw fuel without refinement breeds engine failure.
Early on, I witnessed organizations rush to deploy cutting-edge analytics on fragmented, legacy data setups, only to face poor adoption and broken promises. This shaped my core leadership philosophy: trust is the ultimate metric. Today, as I lead data initiatives, my focus is on building clean, context-rich, and "AI-ready" data foundations. By ensuring data integrity from day one, we eliminate the root causes of AI hallucinations and give enterprise users the confidence they need to make high-stakes decisions driven by data.
2. Why 66degrees, Why Now?
You recently joined 66degrees as AVP - Data & AI and India Data Practice Head. What attracted you to this opportunity, and what aspects of the company's vision, culture, and approach to AI transformation resonated most with you?
A:
Three reasons:
- The Agentic Enterprise
- Doing, Not Just Advising
- The Delivery Engine
What drew me to 66degrees is the firm’s uncompromising clarity on the future of work: the realization of the "Agentic Enterprise." While much of the industry is caught up in the hype of generic AI experimentation, 66degrees is actively pioneering a hybrid workforce where human talent and AI agents collaborate side-by-side to secure true market share for our clients.
We pride ourselves on doing, not just advising. Through our unique Agentic Teams delivery model, we don’t just deliver AI solutions to our clients; we actually use AI to deliver them. By combining our forward-deployed engineers and global experts with our proprietary platform of AI-enabled delivery agents—we have built an execution engine that solves complex enterprise problems at unprecedented speeds. Being able to scale and shape this execution engine from our India Data Practice is an incredibly exciting opportunity.
3. From Data to Business Outcomes
Many organizations have made significant investments in data platforms and AI initiatives, yet only a few consistently generate measurable business value. In your view, what separates organizations that successfully operationalize AI from those that struggle to move beyond proof-of-concept?
A:
- The Modernization Gap: The primary reason organizations struggle to move past the proof-of-concept stage is what we call the "Modernization Gap." Leaders want the immediate business impacts of advanced AI, but they find themselves severely throttled by legacy technical debt and siloed environments. The old playbook dictated that you spent years building a perfect, pristine data warehouse before ever touching AI. In the current market, that approach is obsolete.
- Simultaneous Execution: The companies succeeding today embrace simultaneous execution modernizing their core data infrastructure while rapidly deploying targeted AI capabilities. Furthermore, winners treat AI costs differently.
- Tokenomics: At 66degrees, we help clients operationalize "Tokenomics." This means moving beyond vague IT budgeting and treating AI token costs with the same rigor as a headcount or salary line item on the P&L. By mapping token spend directly to employee productivity gains, we ensure that AI initiatives deliver clear, highly predictable financial returns.
4. The Next Phase of Enterprise AI
Generative AI has accelerated enterprise innovation, but organizations are now shifting toward agentic AI and intelligent automation. How do you see this evolution changing the way businesses operate, and what should leaders be preparing for today?
A:
We are living through a massive architectural shift: moving away from simple, conversational "chatbots" that require constant prompting, toward Agentic AI. This new wave features autonomous agents capable of independent reasoning, orchestrating multi-step workflows, and making real-time tactical decisions. The corporate hierarchy is shifting toward a truly hybrid workforce, where specialized AI agents operate as digital peer workers alongside human teams.
To prepare for this shift, leaders must look beyond individual use cases and focus on building enterprise-grade "agentic scaffolding."
At 66degrees, we enable this through our Agent Framework. The framework acts as the secure connective tissue that links multi-agent systems directly to enterprise data repositories, ensuring that autonomous actions are safe, governed, and contextualized to the business.
"The shift we are seeing is profound: we are moving from the era of Human-in-the-Loop (where AI is a support tool) to Human-on-the-Loop (where AI agents execute tasks autonomously under human governance)."
5. Building Modern Data Foundations
AI is only as effective as the quality of the data behind it. What are the biggest challenges organizations face in building trusted, scalable data foundations, and how can they overcome them to enable long-term AI success?
A:
- The Core Problem: Legacy tech debt, data silos, and a lack of semantic business context are the root causes of AI hallucinations.
- AI for AI: Organizations must use AI to fix their own data supply chains.
- Paradigm Platform: This is exactly where 66degrees changes the paradigm. By leveraging our proprietary Paradigm Platform, we automate the ingestion of legacy code and accelerate cloud data modernization by 50% to 80%. We are moving clients away from slow, manual migration processes and using intelligent automation to build trusted, scalable, and AI-ready data foundations in a fraction of the time.
6. Leading High-Performing Data Teams
As organizations continue investing in AI capabilities, building the right talent becomes just as important as deploying the right technology. What leadership principles have helped you build high-performing teams, and what skills do you believe will define the next generation of data and AI professionals?
A:
My leadership approach centers on fostering human curiosity and building a strict "learn-it-all" rather than a "know-it-all" culture. In a technology landscape shifting as fast as ours, static expertise becomes obsolete quickly; the willingness and agility to learn is the only true competitive advantage.
The next generation of data professionals will look vastly different. They will move away from being pure syntax writers or manual coders and instead step into the role of the "Maestro." Their primary skill will be the orchestrating, prompt engineering, and auditing of various autonomous AI tools to solve complex challenges. By closing the AI competency gap early, leaders can unlock bottom-up innovation, empowering engineers to reinvent their own day-to-day work patterns and drive organizational value from the ground up.
In Summary:
- Human Intelligence & Curiosity: The focus must remain on human curiosity and building a "learn-it-all" rather than a "know-it-all" culture.
- The Maestro: The next generation of data professionals won't just execute tasks; they will act as the "maestro" orchestrating various AI tools.
- Bottom-Up Innovation: Closing the AI competency gap empowers employees to reinvent their own work patterns and operational structures from the bottom up.
7. Responsible AI and Enterprise Trust
As AI becomes embedded in critical business processes, issues such as governance, security, and responsible AI have become boardroom priorities. How should organizations balance rapid innovation with trust, compliance, and ethical AI adoption?
A:
Innovation and governance cannot be treated as opposing forces; strict governance is actually the prerequisite for rapid, confident innovation. To achieve this balance, enterprise governance must be systematically built into the architecture from day one.
- Agentic Operating Systems: Governance must be built-in from day one using a structured repository like our Agent Development Framework (ADF) to enforce security policies.
- Human-in-the-Lead: Champion a "Human-in-the-Lead" methodology to ensure humans actively govern and orchestrate AI.
- Agentic Managed Services: You need specialized, continuous monitoring to keep track of model drift, token spend efficiency, hallucination rates, and the explicit "chain of thought" your agents are using to arrive at conclusions. 66degrees has a strong Agentic managed service team with a proven track record to manage agents for clients.
8. Looking Ahead: The Future of Enterprise AI
As you begin this new chapter at 66degrees, what opportunities excite you the most, and what trends do you believe will define the future of enterprise data and AI over the next five years?
A:
What excites me most about leading the India Data Practice for 66degrees is our vantage point at the absolute frontier of enterprise business architecture. Over the next five years, we will see individual, single-task AI agents group their skills together, evolving into comprehensive, multi-agent "peer workers" that integrate seamlessly into corporate structures.
This evolution will fundamentally collapse traditional role boundaries. It will allow forward-thinking enterprises to scale their operational capabilities exponentially without needing to scale their human headcount proportionally, freeing up human capital to focus entirely on creative strategy.
