Anna Dickerson-Homan Takes on Gusto’s First Marketing AI Systems Architect Role

Article content
Gusto has appointed Anna Dickerson-Homan as its first Marketing AI Systems Architect, creating a new role focused on the systems and workflows that sit behind the company’s marketing organization.
The position did not exist a few months ago. Anna proposed the idea to Gusto’s leadership, who moved quickly to turn it into a formal role. She will now focus on the operational backbone of marketing, from how teams plan and prioritize work to how campaigns move from idea to execution.
Building the Systems Behind Marketing
Anna’s role will centre on improving the way Gusto’s marketing organization works behind the scenes.
That includes building and refining planning tools, identifying friction across campaigns and projects, improving speed to market, and developing shared AI systems that help teams work more effectively together.
Rather than focusing only on individual AI use cases, the role puts attention on the infrastructure and operating systems that allow an entire marketing organization to make better use of AI.
A Role Built From the Ground Up
The appointment also reflects a growing shift in how companies are approaching AI inside marketing teams.
For Anna, the opportunity began with an idea. She brought the concept to Gusto leadership and saw it move from an initial proposal to a new position within months.
She credited the company’s leadership for creating an environment where new ideas can quickly become opportunities to build, experiment, and take on greater responsibility.
Where AI Meets Marketing Operations
As marketing teams adopt AI across content, campaign planning, analytics, and customer engagement, the challenge is increasingly becoming less about access to individual tools and more about how those tools work together.
Anna’s new position sits directly in that space, connecting AI systems with the processes marketers use every day. Her focus will be on making those systems more useful, reducing operational friction, and helping Gusto’s marketing organization move with greater speed and consistency.
Looking Ahead
The creation of a dedicated Marketing AI Systems Architect role points to a broader evolution in marketing leadership, where AI is becoming part of the operating model rather than simply another tool in the marketing stack.
At Gusto, Anna will be responsible for helping build that layer from the ground up.
