Hitachi has unveiled Hitachi Digital, a new global digital services company that will bring its US subsidiaries, GlobalLogic and Hitachi Digital Services, together under a single brand. The company is scheduled to formally launch on 1 April 2027, building on Hitachi's integration plans announced in January 2026.

The move brings together GlobalLogic's digital product engineering and software development capabilities with Hitachi Digital Services' expertise in enterprise systems, infrastructure and operational technology. The combined business aims to help organisations manage digital transformation across the full lifecycle, from developing new products and AI capabilities to modernising enterprise systems and operating them at scale.

Hitachi Digital is expected to comprise approximately 35,000 professionals across 27 countries, serving more than 880 active clients. It will draw on Hitachi's industrial experience and its longstanding work in mission-critical infrastructure to support businesses operating in complex environments.

The announcement marks a further step in Hitachi's strategy to connect its industrial expertise with digital technologies, particularly as organisations look to move beyond AI experimentation towards practical business applications.

Bringing engineering and enterprise operations together

The creation of Hitachi Digital is intended to address a common challenge for large organisations: connecting digital innovation with the systems and operations that underpin their businesses.

GlobalLogic brings expertise in digital engineering, product development, software and AI-enabled application development. Hitachi Digital Services contributes enterprise technology, cloud, infrastructure and operational capabilities, including experience supporting systems where reliability, security and continuity are essential.

Under the new structure, the combined company intends to provide support across the transformation lifecycle, including strategy, engineering, enterprise modernisation and ongoing operations.

Anand Birje, CEO and Chairman of Hitachi Digital, said the business would combine digital engineering and operations at global scale, backed by Hitachi's industrial depth. He positioned the company as a partner for organisations seeking support from strategy through implementation and ongoing operations.

The model is designed to connect the development of new digital capabilities with the modernisation and reliable operation of existing enterprise systems, rather than treating these as separate activities.

Cloud, data and AI move towards business outcomes

Hitachi Digital will focus on services spanning Physical AI, data and intelligence, cloud and site reliability engineering, and enterprise applications.

The emphasis on measurable business outcomes reflects a wider enterprise priority. Organisations are investing in AI and cloud technologies, but translating those investments into operational improvements requires more than deploying new tools. Data foundations, integration with existing systems, industry knowledge and effective execution all influence whether technology delivers lasting value.

Hitachi Digital plans to work with clients across these interconnected requirements. Its teams will develop digital products and AI capabilities, modernise enterprise technology and help run systems reliably in complex operating environments.

The company will also expand its use of Forward Deployed Engineers (FDEs), who work directly with clients in their business and operational environments. These teams can include AI specialists, data scientists and engineers working alongside client teams and technology partners to implement digital capabilities in real-world settings.

This approach is particularly relevant in industries where digital systems must interact with physical operations, complex infrastructure and strict reliability requirements.

Physical AI and industrial expertise

A key part of Hitachi Digital's positioning is the combination of enterprise technology with Hitachi's operational technology (OT) and industrial domain knowledge.

The company intends to accelerate the adoption of enterprise AI and Physical AI across industries including manufacturing, mobility and energy. Physical AI connects AI capabilities with real-world environments, including industrial equipment, infrastructure and operational processes.

The business will also support the development of HMAX by Hitachi, a portfolio of AI-enabled solutions for social infrastructure. In parallel, it will contribute to the broader adoption of Lumada 3.0, Hitachi's initiative to create value by combining data, technology and domain expertise.

Hitachi said revenue from synergies with other Hitachi Group businesses increased 46% year on year in the first half of the relevant reporting period. The company did not disclose the absolute value of that revenue in the announcement.

Hitachi Digital also plans to continue investing in AI, data and cloud talent, expanding technology partnerships and pursuing acquisitions across the technology ecosystem.

A unified brand with a global operating model

The launch of Hitachi Digital establishes a single global identity for the two businesses ahead of their planned formal integration in April 2027. A brand campaign has begun, while the new company's operational launch remains scheduled for the future.

The combined organisation is intended to strengthen Hitachi's ability to serve clients across the digital and physical technology stack. Its proposition brings together product and software engineering, enterprise systems, cloud services, AI capabilities and operational expertise under one global company.

For customers, the intended benefit is a more connected relationship across technology development, enterprise modernisation and ongoing operations. For Hitachi, the move supports its broader ambition to expand digital services and advance Lumada 3.0.

The longer-term opportunity will depend on how effectively the combined business integrates its capabilities, aligns its teams and translates its wider service portfolio into tangible results for clients.

With Hitachi Digital, the group is positioning its industrial experience and digital engineering capabilities as complementary strengths in an increasingly AI-driven enterprise technology market.
