Target has appointed Mark Weinstein as Chief Marketing and Guest Experience Officer, bringing senior global marketing and brand leadership to a role focused on how consumers discover, experience and connect with the retailer.
Mark joins Target from Hilton, where he served as Global Chief Marketing Officer and Head of Luxury Brands, overseeing marketing across Hilton's portfolio of 28 brands and Hilton Honors. His career has included leadership across brand, loyalty, customer engagement, partnerships and digital marketing.
His appointment comes as Target looks to build on its distinctive brand while connecting marketing, loyalty, personalization and guest experience more closely across its physical and digital ecosystem.
Leading Marketing and Guest Experience
As Chief Marketing and Guest Experience Officer, Mark will help shape how Target presents itself to consumers across the full customer journey.
Target said he will oversee a combination of marketing, loyalty and personalization, digital and brand capabilities, with a mandate to create a more connected and personalized experience for guests. His remit also includes Roundel, Target's retail media network, and Target+, its curated marketplace.
The role brings together several functions that increasingly influence how retailers build relationships with customers, from brand discovery and advertising through to shopping and loyalty.
Building on an Iconic Brand
Mark has described Target as a brand he has admired for much of his life, particularly for its ability to stand apart in a highly competitive retail category.
He said the company's brand was what initially attracted him to the opportunity, while the people ultimately convinced him to join.
That combination of brand strength and organisational culture will be central to his approach as Target looks to build its next chapter while retaining the characteristics that have differentiated it for decades.
Connecting Brand With Guest Experience
One of the central opportunities in Mark's new role will be connecting the way Target markets itself with the experience guests actually have across stores and digital channels.
In a conversation with Target, Mark identified the opportunity to more fully connect marketing through a consistent brand platform while using loyalty and personalization to strengthen guest relationships. He also highlighted the importance of defining the future in-store and digital experience.
That focus reflects a broader shift in retail, where brand perception increasingly depends on the entire customer journey rather than advertising alone.
Bringing Global Brand and Loyalty Experience
Mark's experience at Hilton gives him a background in managing complex global brands and building customer relationships at scale.
At Hilton, he led marketing across 28 brands and Hilton Honors, combining brand strategy with customer engagement, loyalty, partnerships and digital capabilities.
That experience is relevant to Target as the retailer looks to deepen personalization and loyalty while maintaining a consistent brand experience across more than 2,000 stores and its digital channels.
Marketing in a Changing Retail Landscape
Target is also investing in technology and AI to make shopping more personalized and easier for guests. Recent initiatives include AI-powered tools designed to help consumers discover products, make decisions and reorder everyday items across Target's digital experience.
For Mark, that creates an opportunity to connect emerging capabilities with the broader brand and guest experience strategy.
The challenge will be balancing innovation with the familiarity and distinctiveness that have long defined Target's position in the market.
The Next Chapter for Target
Mark joins Target at a significant point in the company's evolution, with the retailer focused on style, design, value and a more connected guest experience.
His remit brings together marketing and guest experience at a time when consumers increasingly expect brands to deliver consistency across advertising, digital platforms, physical stores and loyalty relationships.
With Mark's global brand and customer experience background, Target is adding a marketing leader positioned to help shape how the company tells its story and delivers that story through the guest experience.
