Canva has promoted James Law to Head of Marketing Technology, expanding his leadership role across the technology that powers the company's global marketing organisation.

James has been part of Canva's marketing technology function and has previously highlighted the work of his team in building technology that supports Canva's global marketing operations. His LinkedIn profile also shows him recruiting for the company's Marketing Technology team.

His new role comes as marketing organisations increasingly rely on technology to connect customer experiences, data, campaigns and digital channels, while Canva continues to expand its platform and AI capabilities.

Leading Canva's Marketing Technology

As Head of Marketing Technology, James will lead the team responsible for the technology supporting Canva's marketing organisation and how the company connects with customers.

His remit sits at the intersection of marketing, technology and customer experience, making marketing infrastructure an increasingly important part of how Canva scales its global presence.

James said he is particularly excited about what the team can build together in this next chapter, highlighting the talent and experience within the group.

Connecting Technology With Customer Experience

Marketing technology has become increasingly central to how modern organisations understand audiences, manage customer journeys and deliver experiences across channels.

For Canva, that role is particularly relevant as the company continues to grow from a design platform into a broader visual communication and collaboration platform serving individuals, teams and organisations.

Canva's recent marketing research also highlights the changing relationship between AI, marketing technology and customer trust. Its 2026 State of Marketing & AI report found that 97% of marketing leaders surveyed use AI in their daily creative work, while 99% plan to increase AI investment during 2026.

Building the Next Chapter

James' promotion comes as Canva continues to invest in technology, AI and the systems that support its global teams.

The company recently reported that nine in ten Canvanauts use AI every week and has continued to expand its internal AI capabilities, including dedicated AI learning and experimentation initiatives across its workforce.

For the Marketing Technology team, this broader shift creates an opportunity to rethink how technology can support faster, more connected and more relevant customer experiences.

A Focus on the Team

In announcing his new role, James placed particular emphasis on the people he will lead, describing the team as one of the best he has worked with and highlighting its talent, thoughtfulness and care.

He also thanked Canva leaders including Zach Kitschke, Jake Baker, Robert Kawalsky and Stephen Yu for their trust, support and encouragement throughout his journey.

That focus on people reflects the broader role of marketing technology within modern marketing organisations, where success increasingly depends not only on platforms and systems, but also on the teams responsible for turning them into useful business capabilities.

The Next Phase for Marketing Technology

James' expanded leadership role comes at an important point for Canva's marketing organisation as AI changes how content is created, campaigns are developed and customer experiences are delivered.

With marketing technology increasingly becoming part of the underlying infrastructure of modern marketing, his focus will be on helping Canva's team build the capabilities needed to support the company's continued growth and connection with customers.
