Zscaler has announced plans to acquire Symmetry Systems as the cybersecurity company continues expanding its AI security and Zero Trust capabilities for the rapidly evolving enterprise AI ecosystem.

The acquisition reflects Zscaler’s broader push to secure AI-native enterprise environments where data governance, AI agent communication, and autonomous workflows are becoming increasingly critical operational priorities.

Symmetry Systems specializes in data security posture management (DSPM), sensitive data discovery, identity-aware access mapping, and AI-powered data governance across cloud and enterprise environments. Its technology focuses heavily on understanding how users, systems, applications, and AI agents interact with enterprise data environments.

The acquisition is expected to strengthen Zscaler’s broader Zero Trust Exchange platform as organizations increasingly deploy generative AI systems, copilots, agentic workflows, and autonomous enterprise applications at scale.

The announcement comes amid a series of AI-focused strategic moves by Zscaler over the past year, including acquisitions and investments aimed at securing AI infrastructure, browser security, threat intelligence, and AI governance.

As enterprises accelerate AI adoption, security leaders are facing growing challenges around shadow AI, uncontrolled data exposure, AI model access, prompt injection risks, and machine-to-machine trust layers. Zscaler has increasingly positioned Zero Trust architecture as foundational infrastructure for securing these next-generation AI environments.

The company’s expanding AI strategy also highlights a broader industry transition where cybersecurity vendors are evolving beyond traditional perimeter security toward securing autonomous systems, AI-driven decision-making, and real-time enterprise data interactions.

Symmetry Systems’ expertise in data relationships, identity graphs, and access intelligence is expected to complement Zscaler’s existing AI security roadmap, particularly as AI agents begin interacting directly with enterprise applications, workflows, and sensitive datasets.

The acquisition further reinforces how AI governance is quickly becoming a board-level priority for enterprises adopting AI at scale, especially in highly regulated industries managing complex cloud and distributed data environments.
