Hitachi and Anthropic Form Strategic AI Partnership to Accelerate Lumada 3.0 Vision

Article content

Hitachi has announced a strategic partnership with Anthropic aimed at strengthening its “Lumada 3.0” business model through frontier AI capabilities and accelerating the deployment of AI across mission-critical enterprise and infrastructure environments.

The collaboration combines Hitachi’s operational technology, industrial infrastructure, and enterprise systems expertise with Anthropic’s advanced AI models, including Claude, to support AI-driven transformation across sectors such as energy, transportation, manufacturing, and finance.

The companies stated that the partnership is focused on advancing what they describe as “physical AI,” where artificial intelligence increasingly moves beyond digital-only environments into real-world operational systems and infrastructure.

AI Deployment at Enterprise Scale

As part of the agreement, Hitachi plans to deploy advanced AI technologies across internal operations for approximately 290,000 employees globally. The company also intends to develop nearly 100,000 AI-skilled professionals as part of a broader enterprise transformation initiative internally referred to as “Customer Zero.”

The partnership will additionally establish a global “Frontier AI Deployment Center” spanning North America, Europe, and Asia. Initially staffed by around 100 experts from both organizations, the center is expected to expand over time to help accelerate enterprise-scale AI deployment and operational best practices globally.

The initiative also aims to strengthen Hitachi’s HMAX platform and broader Lumada 3.0 ecosystem by integrating AI more deeply into operational workflows, cybersecurity systems, industrial automation, and enterprise intelligence environments.

Frontier AI and Industrial Infrastructure Continue Converging

The announcement reflects a larger industry trend where AI is increasingly being embedded into physical infrastructure, industrial operations, and mission-critical enterprise systems rather than remaining limited to digital productivity use cases.

Companies operating across industrial technology, mobility, energy, and infrastructure sectors are now prioritizing AI orchestration systems capable of combining:

  • operational technology (OT)
  • enterprise IT systems
  • automation
  • intelligent workflows
  • and real-time infrastructure intelligence

into unified operational ecosystems.

Hitachi’s evolving Lumada 3.0 strategy positions the company at the center of this convergence between industrial systems and enterprise AI transformation.
