DigitalOcean Acquires Katanemo Labs to Expand Agentic AI Infrastructure Capabilities

Article content

DigitalOcean has acquired Katanemo Labs, a company focused on building infrastructure for agentic AI systems, marking a strategic step toward expanding its AI cloud capabilities beyond inference and into full-stack operational support for intelligent applications.

The acquisition brings together DigitalOcean’s cloud infrastructure with Katanemo Labs’ expertise in developing AI-native systems designed for building, deploying, and managing AI agents in production environments. This integration is expected to simplify how developers move from experimentation to real-world deployment by addressing the growing complexity of running scalable and reliable AI systems.

Katanemo Labs has been actively developing technologies that support the orchestration, safety, and observability of agent-based systems. Its open-source project, Plano, introduces a data plane layer that abstracts much of the operational complexity involved in managing multi-agent workflows. By incorporating these capabilities, DigitalOcean aims to offer a more unified platform for teams building next-generation AI applications.

As part of the deal, Katanemo Labs’ co-founder and CEO Salman Paracha has joined DigitalOcean in a senior leadership role, contributing to the company’s AI roadmap and product development efforts. The broader team will support ongoing innovation across AI infrastructure and developer tooling.

The move reflects a broader shift in the AI landscape, where the focus is evolving from model development to operational scalability and system reliability. As more organizations look to deploy AI agents in production, the need for robust infrastructure, monitoring, and performance optimization has become increasingly critical.

By integrating agentic AI primitives and observability capabilities, DigitalOcean is positioning itself to support developers and enterprises looking to build, deploy, and continuously improve intelligent systems within a single, streamlined cloud environment.
