Coupa has acquired Tonkean as part of its expanding strategy around autonomous spend management and AI-native enterprise workflow orchestration.

The acquisition strengthens Coupa’s ambition to build what it describes as an “agentic trade network,” combining procurement intelligence, workflow orchestration, document automation, supplier intelligence, and AI-driven execution into a unified enterprise platform.

Tonkean brings a no-code orchestration platform with more than 250 native enterprise connectors, allowing organizations to automate procurement, finance, legal, and operational workflows across existing enterprise systems without requiring major infrastructure replacement.

According to Coupa, the acquisition accelerates its product roadmap around autonomous workflow execution, agent-to-agent coordination, and AI-enabled procurement operations. The company stated that Tonkean’s orchestration capabilities will help enterprises move toward faster, more scalable, and operationally integrated procurement environments.

The move also reflects a broader shift happening across enterprise software, where organizations are increasingly looking beyond standalone AI assistants toward operational AI ecosystems capable of orchestrating workflows, approvals, supplier interactions, and enterprise decision-making across fragmented systems.

Coupa noted that Tonkean becomes its fourth strategic acquisition tied to its autonomous spend management vision, following earlier acquisitions including Cirtuo, Scoutbee, and Rossum. Together, these acquisitions expand Coupa’s capabilities across supplier intelligence, document processing, category management, and orchestration.

The announcement comes as enterprise procurement and operations leaders increasingly prioritize AI governance, workflow orchestration, and operational visibility alongside automation and efficiency initiatives. Industry discussions across procurement communities also continue highlighting the importance of orchestration layers and human-in-the-loop governance as AI adoption expands across enterprise procurement operations.
