Coupa Acquires Rossum to Expand Autonomous Spend Management Capabilities

Article content
Coupa has acquired Rossum in a strategic move aimed at accelerating end-to-end autonomous spend management capabilities across its enterprise platform.
The acquisition builds on an existing partnership between the two companies focused on automating complex invoicing workflows for accounts payable teams. With the deal, Coupa plans to extend Rossum’s intelligent document processing (IDP) technology across its broader source-to-pay ecosystem using agentic AI capabilities.
Rossum is known for its AI-first approach to document automation, powered by a specialized transactional large language model (T-LLM) designed to process invoices and transactional documents with high accuracy and speed. The company’s technology has already been integrated within Coupa’s accounts payable workflows through a certified native integration partnership established in 2024.
According to Coupa CEO Leagh Turner, the acquisition reflects the growing importance of applying AI-driven automation across procurement, finance, and supply chain operations. The company believes Rossum’s capabilities can help enterprises achieve faster processing, greater operational efficiency, improved data control, and more autonomous financial workflows.
The move comes as enterprise software companies increasingly race to build agentic AI systems capable of executing complex operational tasks with minimal human intervention. Intelligent document processing has emerged as a key area of investment as organizations seek to automate invoice management, procurement documentation, approvals, and enterprise transaction workflows at scale.
Coupa has been aggressively positioning itself around autonomous spend management and AI-powered procurement infrastructure. The company recently expanded its broader AI strategy with initiatives focused on orchestrating enterprise AI agents across finance and procurement functions.
Rossum’s technology is already widely recognized within the intelligent document processing market, with the company earning industry recognition for automation, enterprise workflow orchestration, and AI-powered document understanding.
The acquisition also highlights the growing consolidation taking place across enterprise AI and automation markets as larger enterprise software platforms look to integrate specialized AI capabilities directly into their ecosystems rather than relying solely on third-party integrations.
As organizations continue modernizing finance and procurement operations, autonomous workflows powered by AI agents, intelligent automation, and real-time data processing are increasingly becoming central to enterprise digital transformation strategies.
