OpenAI is set to appoint Samantha Jacobson as Vice President of Partnerships (Monetization), adding a senior advertising and strategic partnerships executive to its growing leadership team.

Jacobson joins from The Trade Desk, where she served as Chief Strategy Officer and played a key role in shaping the company’s strategic investments, partnerships, and long-term growth initiatives across the advertising technology ecosystem.

At OpenAI, she will reportedly lead monetization partnerships spanning advertising, distribution, platform infrastructure, and emerging commercial models as the company continues expanding its enterprise and consumer AI ecosystem. She is expected to report to Torben Severson, Vice President and Head of Global Business Development.

The move highlights the growing convergence between artificial intelligence platforms and the broader advertising and media technology industry. As generative AI platforms increasingly explore sustainable revenue models, experienced leaders with backgrounds in programmatic advertising, platform partnerships, and monetization strategy are becoming highly valuable across the sector.

Jacobson’s transition also comes during a period of broader executive evolution within the adtech and AI landscape, where companies are reshaping leadership structures around AI commercialization, platform distribution, and enterprise partnerships.

Despite stepping away from her executive role at The Trade Desk, reports indicate Jacobson will continue serving on the company’s board of directors.

Industry observers view the appointment as another indication that AI companies are increasingly preparing for more structured monetization ecosystems involving advertising, platform integrations, enterprise partnerships, and distribution alliances.
