Walgreens has appointed Maya Bowie as Senior Vice President, Marketing, bringing an experienced retail marketing leader to the company as it works to shape the next chapter of its iconic consumer brand.

Maya shared the move on LinkedIn after nearly six years at Walmart, describing Walgreens as a brand with a meaningful place in people's lives and saying she was honored to lead its marketing organization.

Leading Marketing at Walgreens

As SVP, Marketing, Maya will lead marketing for Walgreens, working alongside commercial, merchandising, insights, cross-functional, and agency teams.

She highlighted the early momentum within the organization and praised the group of merchants and commercial leaders assembled by Rachael Vegas, who recruited her to Walgreens.

Maya described the team as smart, collaborative, driven, and deeply committed to both their people and the business.

Building the Next Chapter

Maya's appointment comes as Walgreens looks to build on its long-standing role in American healthcare and retail.

Having already spent her first few weeks meeting the Marketing and Insights team, as well as cross-functional and agency partners, Maya said she has been encouraged by the talent, passion, and dedication across the organization.

She also pointed to the company's executive leadership team and its focus on the opportunities ahead as sources of momentum.

Bringing Retail Experience From Walmart

Maya joins Walgreens after almost six years at Walmart, where she held leadership responsibilities spanning healthcare, marketing, and several major retail categories.

Her Walmart experience included leading OTC Health through the pandemic, followed by four years across Marketing covering Food, Consumables, Health & Wellness, Marketplace, Online Pickup & Delivery, Private Brands, and Partnerships.

She described the period as a master class in retail, transformation, culture, leadership, and impact, while expressing gratitude for the teams and mentors who shaped her experience there.

Looking Ahead

For Maya, the move represents both a new professional chapter and an opportunity to apply her extensive retail experience to another major consumer brand.

As Walgreens marks its 125th year, Maya will focus on helping define the brand's future while building on the talent and momentum already within the organization.

She enters the role with a clear sense of gratitude for her Walmart journey and strong enthusiasm for what comes next at Walgreens.
