JLR has appointed Adam Constable as Global Managing Director for Land Rover Discovery and Freelander, giving him responsibility for two brands as the automaker continues to develop its House of Brands strategy.

Adam has been leading both brands since the start of the year and now takes on the formal Global Managing Director remit. His appointment places him at the centre of the next phase of development for Discovery and Freelander as JLR continues to evolve its brand portfolio.

Leading Discovery and Freelander

Adam will oversee the global direction of Land Rover Discovery while also serving as Managing Director of Freelander.

The appointment gives Discovery its own dedicated senior leadership as JLR works to establish clearer identities and positioning across its brand portfolio. Reporting has described the move as the first time Discovery has received a dedicated leadership role, with Adam taking charge from September 1.

For Freelander, his remit includes leadership of the new electrified SUV brand being developed by Chery with JLR's backing.

Experience Across JLR's Brand Strategy

Adam brings substantial experience within JLR's brand and product organisation.

Before taking on his new responsibilities, he served as Global Strategy Director for Range Rover. His earlier career at JLR also included leadership of global product marketing for Special Vehicle Operations and global brand strategy.

That background gives Adam experience across brand strategy, product marketing and the development of premium automotive brands, experience that will be relevant as Discovery and Freelander establish their positions within JLR's evolving portfolio.

A New Phase for Discovery

Adam's appointment comes at an important point for Discovery.

JLR is working to reposition Discovery as a distinct brand within its House of Brands approach, with an emphasis on differentiating it from Defender while developing its future product portfolio. The Discovery Sport is scheduled to end production later this year, while the current fifth-generation Discovery is also approaching the end of its lifecycle.

The next phase will therefore involve defining the brand's future positioning while preparing for a new generation of products.

Developing Freelander's Global Direction

Alongside Discovery, Adam's responsibility for Freelander adds another dimension to his remit.

Freelander is being developed in partnership with Chinese automaker Chery, with JLR backing the new electrified SUV brand. Adam's role includes oversight of JLR's operations in China connected to the partnership, including the Changshu manufacturing facility and Shanghai design centre.

The dual responsibility places Adam across two distinct brand-building programmes as JLR continues to shape its wider House of Brands structure.

Supporting JLR's House of Brands Strategy

JLR has been moving toward a portfolio built around distinct brands including Range Rover, Defender, Discovery and Jaguar.

Adam's expanded role reflects that approach, with Discovery now receiving dedicated leadership as JLR works to establish a clearer proposition for the brand and develop its next generation of products.

For Adam, the role brings together brand strategy, product direction and organisational leadership across two brands entering important stages of development.
