Kargo has appointed David McDowell to lead commerce and retail media partnerships and go-to-market across the Asia-Pacific region, taking on a role that spans both supply and programmatic demand-side solutions.

David shared the move on LinkedIn, describing the position as a unique opportunity to work across both sides of the commerce and retail media ecosystem. His mandate will bring together partnerships, market development and go-to-market strategy across retail media networks and the suppliers supporting them.

Bridging Supply and Demand

David's new role sits at the intersection of two increasingly connected areas of digital advertising: the supply side, where retail media networks are developing and monetising their advertising inventory, and the demand side, where brands and advertisers look to activate audiences programmatically.

Rather than focusing on a single part of the ecosystem, David will work across both sides of the market, helping Kargo develop partnerships and commercial opportunities around commerce and retail media.

This creates a broader mandate as retail media networks look to expand their advertising capabilities while advertisers seek more scalable and measurable ways to reach consumers closer to the point of purchase.

Building Kargo's APAC Commerce Proposition

Across APAC, retail media is developing rapidly as retailers, marketplaces and commerce platforms build advertising businesses around their first-party customer and transaction data.

For technology and media partners, the challenge is connecting these increasingly diverse retail media environments with solutions that can support both monetisation and advertiser demand.

David's focus on partnerships and GTM will therefore be central to helping Kargo position its proposition across different markets, business models and retail media ecosystems.

A Cross-Market Growth Opportunity

The APAC market presents a particularly diverse landscape for commerce and retail media, with significant differences in consumer behaviour, retail structures, digital maturity and advertising ecosystems from one market to another.

A cross-market role requires the ability to identify common opportunities while adapting partnerships and go-to-market strategies to local market conditions.

David's mandate at Kargo will involve working closely with partners across this landscape, while continuing to test and refine the company's proposition with stakeholders on both sides of the market.

Connecting Commerce and Programmatic

The convergence of commerce media and programmatic advertising is creating new opportunities for retailers, suppliers, publishers and advertisers.

As more commerce businesses look to build sustainable media revenues, programmatic infrastructure can become an important part of scaling inventory and connecting retail audiences with broader advertising demand.

David's role brings these two areas together, with a focus on developing partnerships and commercial strategies that can help Kargo participate in this evolving ecosystem across APAC.

Looking Ahead

David noted that conversations with market participants have already helped test and sharpen the proposition, suggesting that partnership development will remain an important part of the early phase of his new role.

With commerce and retail media continuing to expand across APAC, his focus on connecting supply-side opportunities with programmatic demand positions him at an important intersection of the region's evolving digital advertising market.
