Databricks appoints Simon Barnes as Genie GTM Lead for Asia Pacific and Japan

Article content
Databricks has appointed Simon Barnes as Genie GTM Lead for Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ), expanding his responsibilities within the company as it looks to help organisations turn AI investments into measurable business outcomes.
Simon shared the news after two and a half years at Databricks, highlighting Genie’s potential to help businesses adopt AI without the long implementation timelines, large budgets and specialist teams often associated with enterprise AI programmes.
Making enterprise AI more accessible
A key part of Simon’ new remit will be taking Genie’s value proposition to organisations across APJ. Genie enables users to interact with business data using natural language, helping teams access insights in a more accessible way.
Simon emphasised that Genie can work with an organisation’s business context, integrate into existing workflows and operate within established governance frameworks. This approach aims to help businesses put AI to work more quickly, shifting the conversation from lengthy implementation programmes towards practical business value.
Moving from AI experimentation to business outcomes
For many organisations, the challenge with AI is no longer simply identifying potential use cases. It is finding ways to deploy solutions that employees can use within existing systems, processes and governance requirements.
Simon sees Genie as an opportunity to shorten the path from experimentation to impact, potentially allowing teams to change how they work in weeks rather than spending months building bespoke solutions.
His APJ focus comes as organisations across the region assess how to scale AI adoption while balancing implementation costs, governance and the need to demonstrate tangible returns.
Building momentum across APJ
Simon thanked Craig Nowell for bringing him into the team and acknowledged Simon Davies and Adam Beavis for supporting the move.
His appointment places him at the intersection of AI, data and go-to-market strategy, with an emphasis on communicating how organisations can use their data to make better decisions and improve day-to-day operations.
As enterprises look for more practical routes to AI adoption, the ability to connect data capabilities with clear business outcomes will remain an important part of the market’s next phase.
