Axon appoints John McRee as Head of Product Marketing Strategy

Article content
Axon has appointed John McRee as Head of Product Marketing Strategy, where he will lead product marketing and go-to-market strategy for some of the company's most complex product initiatives.
John shared the move as a new chapter in a career shaped by technology that addresses difficult real-world problems. His new remit spans AI products, connected devices and real-time intelligence systems serving public safety and enterprise segments.
Leading Product Marketing and GTM Strategy
As Head of Product Marketing Strategy, John owns product marketing and go-to-market strategy for Axon's highest-priority and most complex launches.
His role brings together product positioning, launch strategy and commercial execution, working closely with Product and Sales to establish the strategic direction for major initiatives.
The remit also extends across Growth Marketing, Digital and Sales Enablement, connecting product narratives with campaigns, field readiness and pipeline outcomes.
Bringing AI and Connected Technologies to Market
John's portfolio spans AI products, connected devices and real-time intelligence systems, including initiatives within Axon's real-time operations portfolio.
The role comes as technology companies increasingly need to translate complex technical capabilities into clear customer propositions and practical use cases.
For Axon, that challenge is particularly relevant when products operate in live public safety environments, where technology adoption involves multiple stakeholders and considerations beyond the immediate buyer.
A Governance-First Approach to Product Marketing
An important part of John's remit involves developing positioning for AI and other sensitive product categories with governance built into the go-to-market process.
He works with Legal, Privacy, Public Relations and Government Affairs on launches that carry regulatory and reputational considerations.
That cross-functional approach is designed to ensure that product strategy, messaging and execution remain aligned when new technologies are introduced into environments subject to significant public and institutional scrutiny.
Preparing for Complex Customer Conversations
John's responsibilities also extend beyond traditional launch materials.
He prepares sellers and agencies for difficult conversations, including the questions that can arise around public safety technology in settings such as city councils, procurement processes and community discussions.
That requires product marketing to address not only what a technology does, but also how it should be understood and discussed by the organisations and communities using it.
Building Consistency Across Product Marketing
Alongside individual launches, John is responsible for developing GTM frameworks, launch templates and messaging standards for the wider product marketing organisation.
The objective is to create greater consistency in how complex products move from strategy and positioning through launch and commercial execution.
His work therefore combines strategic product marketing with the systems and processes required to support repeatable execution across a broader organisation.
A New Chapter at Axon
John described his career as one that has largely followed technology capable of changing how difficult problems are solved.
His move to Axon brings that focus into a company working across public safety technology, where AI, connected devices and real-time intelligence increasingly intersect with the needs of communities and the agencies serving them.
As he begins the new role, John will focus on bringing Axon's most complex product initiatives to market with a close connection between product strategy, GTM execution and responsible communication.
