Qualcomm Strengthens AI Ambitions with Modular Acquisition
Qualcomm has announced an agreement to acquire AI software company Modular in an all-stock transaction valued at approximately $3.92 billion. The move marks a significant step in Qualcomm’s broader strategy to evolve from a semiconductor leader into a developer-first AI solutions company capable of delivering AI workloads across devices, data centers, and cloud environments.
Under the terms of the deal, Qualcomm expects to issue up to 19.2 million shares of its common stock to Modular’s equity holders. The transaction is anticipated to close during the second half of 2026, subject to customary closing conditions.

Founded by industry veterans Chris Lattner and Tim Davis, Modular has developed an AI-native software platform designed to simplify AI deployment across a wide range of computing architectures.
