Article content
Meta has expanded Ravi Garg’s responsibilities, with him taking on the role of Managing Director, Enterprise Business, APAC. The move places him at the centre of the company's enterprise business strategy across one of its largest regions as businesses explore new applications for artificial intelligence.
Ravi's expanded remit builds on five years working on WhatsApp Business in India, where he helped develop business messaging as a channel for customer engagement, commerce and essential services.
In his new role, he will focus on bringing Meta's business messaging and AI capabilities to enterprises across Asia Pacific, as organisations look to transform customer interactions, products and go-to-market strategies.
From WhatsApp Business in India to a regional leadership role
Over the past five years, Ravi has been closely involved in expanding the role of WhatsApp Business in India.
The platform has become a channel through which businesses engage customers across product discovery, purchasing, service delivery and ongoing support. Its use also extends to public services, including metro ticketing, bill payments and communication with government departments.
Ravi described his previous role as an opportunity to help shape the product and market strategy for WhatsApp Business as the business scaled to a multi-billion-dollar revenue run rate, with India among its largest contributors.
That experience provides a foundation for his broader APAC responsibilities.
Building Meta's enterprise business in APAC
Ravi's new remit comes as Meta seeks to deepen relationships with businesses across Asia Pacific.
The region includes markets with varied levels of digital maturity, customer engagement preferences and enterprise technology adoption. Business messaging offers organisations a way to meet customers on familiar platforms, while AI introduces opportunities to automate interactions and support more personalised experiences.
Ravi will lead Meta's enterprise business across APAC, working with teams and colleagues throughout the region as the company develops this part of its business.
Bringing AI into business interactions
A central theme of Ravi's announcement is the opportunity to combine Meta's reach across consumers and businesses with its growing AI capabilities.
He highlighted Business Messaging, Meta Business Agents and Muse APIs among the technologies that could help organisations build, grow and reinvent their products, services and go-to-market approaches.
For enterprises, the opportunity extends beyond conventional customer communication. AI-powered business interactions could support product discovery, customer assistance and other parts of the customer journey, depending on how organisations integrate these capabilities into their operations.
The challenge will be translating advances in AI into practical applications that deliver value for businesses and their customers.
Building on India's business messaging experience
India's adoption of WhatsApp Business provides relevant experience for Meta's wider regional ambitions.
The platform's use across commerce, payments-related interactions, public services and customer support illustrates how business messaging can become part of everyday digital activity.
Ravi's experience in helping scale this business gives him exposure to both product strategy and the commercial considerations involved in growing enterprise-facing platforms.
As Meta looks to expand its enterprise AI offering across APAC, that experience could inform how the company works with businesses operating across different markets and industries.
A broader opportunity across APAC
Meta's enterprise opportunity is evolving as organisations consider how messaging, AI agents and digital platforms can work together.
For businesses, the focus is increasingly on applying these technologies to specific customer and operational needs rather than adopting AI as a standalone initiative.
Ravi's expanded role places him in a position to help Meta develop its enterprise business across APAC while building on the experience gained through WhatsApp Business in India.
His appointment reflects the growing importance of enterprise relationships as Meta extends its business messaging and AI capabilities.
