Conductor names Wei Zheng CEO as company expands AEO strategy

Article content
Wei Zheng has stepped into the role of CEO at Conductor, moving from Chief Product Officer to lead the company into its next phase of development around AI, digital visibility and Answer Engine Optimization.
Wei has spent the past five years at Conductor, where she has been responsible for the company's product direction. During that period, she helped shape the company's move toward a broader data platform and the development of its AEO offering.
Her appointment comes as AI increasingly changes how consumers discover, evaluate and choose brands, creating a new set of challenges for organisations trying to remain visible across digital and AI-driven experiences.
From CPO to CEO
Wei joined Conductor after a career focused on connecting technology and data with business problems. As CPO, she worked on the company's strategic product direction and the development of its platform.
Conductor's own leadership materials describe Wei as responsible for strategic product direction, including product management and user experience design. Her earlier career included product leadership roles at Trifacta and Informatica, where she worked across data preparation, big data and data virtualisation.
That background now becomes relevant at company level as Conductor positions its future around AI and the changing nature of digital discovery.
Building the foundation for Conductor AI
In her announcement, Wei reflected on a product investment made several years ago: building a holistic data platform capable of bringing together the signals shaping a brand's digital presence.
She said that investment became the foundation for Conductor AI and the company's broader AEO platform.
The shift reflects a changing definition of digital visibility. Traditional search optimisation has historically focused on rankings and traffic, while AI-driven discovery increasingly introduces questions around whether a brand is understood, represented and recommended within AI-generated answers.
Conductor has been developing its platform around this emerging environment, including tools and workflows designed to help enterprises operationalise AEO at scale.
AEO becomes a company-wide priority
Wei's appointment also comes with a clear strategic emphasis on Answer Engine Optimization.
She argues that AEO cannot sit exclusively within marketing because AI is increasingly influencing the broader customer journey.
As consumers use AI systems to research products, compare companies and make decisions, the way a business is represented in those experiences can involve product information, content, customer experience, technology and other organisational functions.
Conductor has therefore said it is going all-in on AEO, with an emphasis on trusted intelligence, enterprise-ready solutions and data that can help customers understand how their brands are appearing across AI-driven discovery.
From search rankings to AI visibility
The rise of AEO reflects a broader shift in how organisations think about digital visibility.
Conductor has previously argued that traditional search rankings are becoming less central as AI-generated answers change the way users interact with information. Its research and product strategy increasingly focus on helping brands understand visibility inside AI experiences.
That creates a different challenge for marketing and digital teams.
Rather than optimising only for where a webpage appears in search results, organisations increasingly need to understand what information AI systems are using, how their brands are represented and whether they are appearing in the answers that influence customer decisions.
Continuing the foundation built by Seth Besmertnik
Wei's move into the CEO role follows the leadership of Seth Besmertnik, Conductor's co-founder and CEO.
In reflecting on her transition, Wei credited Seth with giving her the autonomy and trust to make long-term product investments, including the data platform that eventually became a foundation for Conductor AI and its AEO strategy.
She also highlighted the culture Besmertnik built around putting people and customers first.
The transition therefore represents both a change in leadership and a continuation of work developed during Wei's time as CPO.
The next phase of Conductor
Wei takes over as CEO at a moment when the relationship between AI, search, content and customer discovery is changing rapidly.
Conductor's C3 2026 conference, scheduled for October 28 in New York City, is set to focus on AEO and agentic workflows, with the company positioning the event as a platform for discussing how enterprises can operationalise AI-driven discovery.
For Conductor, the next phase will centre on how effectively it can turn its data, product capabilities and understanding of digital visibility into tools that enterprises can use as AI becomes a larger part of the customer journey.
For Wei, it marks the next step in a five-year journey at the company, moving from shaping the product strategy to leading the broader business.
