Cloudflare surpasses 10 million developers as AI agents reshape software development

Article content
Cloudflare has surpassed 10 million developers building on its platform, up from 7.4 million in the previous quarter, as artificial intelligence changes how software is developed, deployed and scaled.
Announced on October 21, 2026, the milestone reflects the expansion of Cloudflare's developer platform beyond its original serverless computing offering. The company now provides tools spanning compute, storage, databases, AI, media, real-time services, observability and developer workflows.
The announcement comes as daily requests from AI agents across Cloudflare's network have increased by more than 1,700% over the past year, highlighting the changing demands on Internet infrastructure as AI-powered applications and autonomous agents become more prevalent.
Developer Growth and the AI Shift
Cloudflare's developer ecosystem began with Workers, its serverless compute platform, and has expanded into a broader environment for building and operating modern applications.
The company is positioning this platform for a software development landscape increasingly shaped by AI coding assistants, agentic workflows and applications that interact with other software systems.
As AI tools accelerate code generation and application development, developers need infrastructure that can support faster deployment, global availability and interactions between people, applications, APIs and AI agents.
Cloudflare aims to address these requirements through an integrated set of developer tools that allows applications to be built, deployed, secured, observed and scaled across its network.
AI Agents Drive New Infrastructure Demands
The increase in AI agent traffic reflects a shift in how the Internet is being used. Applications are no longer designed exclusively around human visitors. AI agents can also access services, retrieve information, interact with APIs and perform tasks on behalf of users and businesses.
Cloudflare reported that daily requests from AI agents on its network grew by more than 1,700% in one year. The company also said that, for the first time, more than half of Internet traffic was not generated by humans.
These developments create new requirements for infrastructure providers, including the ability to support frequent machine-to-machine interactions, manage application workloads efficiently and maintain performance as traffic patterns change.
For developers, this means designing applications for both human users and automated systems that may operate continuously.
A Full-Stack Platform for AI Applications
Cloudflare is expanding its developer offering to bring together the infrastructure and services required to build AI-native applications.
Its platform includes Workers for compute, Workers AI for AI workloads, Workers KV for key-value storage, D1 for databases, R2 for object storage, Durable Objects for stateful applications and AI Gateway for managing AI model interactions.
These services give developers building blocks for applications that combine processing, data storage and AI capabilities without having to assemble every component from separate providers.
Cloudflare's architecture also uses isolates through Workers rather than relying on traditional virtual machines or containers for its execution model. The company says this approach supports fast deployment and efficient scaling across its global network.
Global Infrastructure for Distributed Workloads
Cloudflare's network is central to its strategy as AI applications become more distributed.
According to the company's announcement, its network spans more than 340 cities across more than 130 countries, connects with 13,888 networks and has 590 Tbps of external network capacity.
This footprint enables developers to deploy applications closer to users and support interactions across geographically distributed systems.
As AI agents generate more requests and applications increasingly communicate with other applications, network reach, performance, resilience and security become important considerations alongside computing capacity.
Cloudflare is positioning its infrastructure to support these workloads through a unified developer platform.
Building for the Agentic Era
Rita Kozlov, Vice President of Product Management at Cloudflare, said the company built Workers around a different approach to compute, designed for efficiency, speed and global scale.
She noted that the software lifecycle is expanding beyond developers building applications for people to include developers and agents building for both people and other agents.
The shift also changes how businesses evaluate developer infrastructure. Beyond hosting applications, platforms must increasingly support AI-assisted development, automated workflows and continuous interactions between software systems.
Cloudflare's strategy is to provide the underlying tools for these applications within one platform, helping developers move from initial ideas to globally deployed services.
What the Milestone Means for Cloudflare
Crossing 10 million developers marks a significant expansion of Cloudflare's developer ecosystem, although the milestone alone does not establish how many developers are actively using each product or generating production workloads.
The reported increase in AI agent requests provides additional context for the company's infrastructure strategy. As AI adoption expands, Cloudflare sees an opportunity to support the development and operation of applications built for a more automated Internet.
The next phase will depend on how effectively developers use these tools to build production applications and how businesses translate AI capabilities into practical outcomes.
For Cloudflare, the objective is to make its network and developer platform a foundation for applications operating in an Internet increasingly shaped by AI agents.
