Salesforce has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Loops, an AI-powered analytics platform that monitors business performance, explains changes in key metrics and identifies opportunities for improvement.

The proposed acquisition is intended to strengthen Salesforce’s agentic analytics strategy by bringing Loops’ capabilities into Tableau, its data analytics business. The integration is expected to help organisations move beyond identifying what has changed in their business performance to understanding why it changed and determining what action to take next.

Financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed. Salesforce expects the acquisition to close in early November 2026, subject to customary closing conditions.

Moving from reporting to actionable insights

Traditional business intelligence tools help organisations monitor performance through dashboards, reports and key performance indicators. However, identifying a change in a metric does not necessarily explain what caused it or what a team should do in response.

Loops was built around this gap between reporting and action. Its platform uses machine learning models to monitor business performance, investigate the drivers behind changing metrics and proactively surface opportunities for improvement.

The company’s approach centres on a simple principle: analytics should push relevant insights to decision-makers rather than require them to continually search through dashboards for answers.

That model is particularly relevant as businesses look to make analytics more accessible and useful across teams, including for employees who may not work directly with data every day.

Bringing agentic analytics into Tableau

Salesforce plans to integrate Loops’ technology and specialised talent into Tableau following completion of the acquisition.

The move aligns with Tableau’s evolving focus on agentic analytics, where AI capabilities help organisations interpret data, identify opportunities and support decisions within existing workflows.

Loops’ platform can monitor key performance indicators, detect trends and anomalies, and surface explanations for changes. Its capabilities can also be triggered through tools such as Slack and email, bringing insights closer to the environments where teams communicate and work.

For Salesforce, these capabilities are intended to help customers connect analytics more directly with business decisions and actions.

Closing the gap between insight and action

A recurring challenge for analytics teams is ensuring that insights lead to meaningful changes in business activity.

Identifying a decline in conversion rates, a shift in customer retention or an unexpected change in revenue is only the starting point. Teams must also understand the contributing factors, evaluate possible responses and determine whether those actions improve performance.

Loops was developed to help organisations navigate this process by connecting metric changes with potential explanations and next steps.

Its addition to Tableau is expected to support Salesforce’s broader effort to help businesses identify the factors influencing performance and prioritise actions that can improve outcomes.

A natural fit for the agentic era

In announcing the agreement, Loops CEO and co-founder Tom Laufer said the company was built around helping businesses understand what drives their results and decide what to do next. He described Salesforce and Tableau as a natural fit for extending that vision to a broader customer base.

Loops was founded by Laufer and co-founder Ido Adiv approximately six years ago. The company developed its platform in response to the limitations of conventional analytics workflows, where teams often had access to extensive reporting but lacked clear explanations or actionable recommendations.

As AI agents become more integrated into enterprise operations, the ability to identify relevant opportunities and provide reliable context becomes increasingly important. Agentic analytics aims to make that process more continuous, helping people and AI agents work from a clearer understanding of business performance.

Expanding Salesforce’s analytics strategy

The proposed acquisition adds another capability to Salesforce’s broader AI strategy, with Tableau positioned to connect data analysis more closely with action.

Rather than limiting analytics to dashboards and reports, the combined direction is intended to help organisations continuously monitor performance, investigate changes and identify where intervention may be needed.

The deal also reflects a wider enterprise technology shift towards AI systems that do more than answer questions. Businesses are increasingly exploring systems that can interpret information, surface relevant context and help teams determine their next steps.

Once the acquisition closes, Salesforce plans to bring Loops’ technology and specialised talent into Tableau as it continues developing its agentic analytics capabilities.
