In his new role, he will lead Scotiabank’s enterprise data and AI strategy, aligning data, analytics, AI and process transformation with business priorities.
His appointment comes as financial institutions continue to develop the platforms, capabilities and governance required to integrate AI into business operations.
Leading Enterprise Data and AI Strategy
As Chief Data and AI Officer, Luke will oversee Scotiabank’s enterprise data and AI strategy, with an emphasis on business impact and building capabilities that can support adoption across the organisation.
The remit brings together data foundations, analytics, AI and process transformation. Aligning these areas can help organisations move beyond isolated experiments towards more consistent use of data and AI in business decisions and operational workflows.
Modernising Data Foundations
A strong data foundation is central to scaling AI across a large enterprise. Data quality, accessibility, architecture and governance influence how effectively organisations can develop AI applications and use insights in decision-making.
Luke’s experience in modernising data foundations is relevant to this challenge, particularly as financial institutions seek to develop enterprise-wide capabilities while maintaining appropriate oversight and controls.
Scaling AI Responsibly
Scotiabank’s stated focus on responsible AI adoption places governance alongside technology development and business outcomes.
As AI becomes more closely integrated with business processes, organisations must consider how systems are governed, how data is used and how new capabilities align with enterprise requirements.
Luke’s role will bring data, analytics and AI strategy together with the broader process transformation needed to support responsible adoption.
Connecting Technology With Business Impact
The appointment also highlights the importance of aligning AI investment with measurable business priorities.
For large financial institutions, enterprise AI involves more than introducing new tools. It requires coordination across data infrastructure, analytics, operational processes and governance so that capabilities can be applied consistently across the business.
Luke will lead this enterprise-wide agenda as Scotiabank continues building the capabilities and platforms needed to scale AI.
