Article content
EROAD has appointed David Leach as Chief Executive Officer, effective 12 October 2026, bringing an experienced technology executive to lead the company's next phase of development across connected transport and fleet management.
David joins EROAD after serving as CEO of JAVLN, a cloud-based insurance software business, and previously led Cin7 as CEO and Executive Director. During his tenure at Cin7, he helped grow annual recurring revenue more than fivefold to over NZ$110 million while improving profitability and expanding the business's global reach.
In his first public message as EROAD's CEO, Leach said his initial priority would be listening to employees, customers and industry partners to understand their needs and perspectives. He also highlighted the opportunities emerging from AI as technology businesses enter a period of change.
Leading EROAD's Next Chapter
David takes the helm at a company operating at the intersection of software, connected vehicles and commercial transport.
EROAD develops hardware-enabled SaaS and telematics solutions that help commercial and government fleet operators manage vehicles, drivers and assets. Its platform supports customers across New Zealand, Australia and North America, with capabilities spanning fleet safety, regulatory compliance, sustainability and operational efficiency.
David has said that understanding customer and employee perspectives will shape how the company executes its mission of delivering fleet solutions. This listening-first approach sets the tone for his early leadership priorities.
Bringing Experience Scaling Global SaaS Businesses
David brings more than two decades of experience building, scaling and transforming technology businesses serving global markets.
At Cin7, he led the company through a period of substantial growth, expanding annual recurring revenue to more than NZ$110 million and helping establish a platform serving over 8,000 customers across more than 100 countries.
His experience spans executive leadership, performance improvement, transformational change, global expansion, innovation and mergers and acquisitions.
That background is relevant to EROAD as it continues to develop its connected transport platform and serve customers operating complex, often highly regulated fleets.
AI and the Future of Connected Transport
David's appointment comes as AI creates new opportunities across the technology sector, including in areas where software, hardware and operational data intersect.
For fleet operators, connected vehicle technology can provide visibility into vehicles, drivers and assets. AI has the potential to build on these data foundations, supporting more informed decisions around safety, efficiency and fleet operations.
EROAD's combination of hardware-enabled software and transport expertise gives it a foundation for responding to these developments. How the company translates emerging capabilities into practical value for customers will be an important part of its next chapter.
A Focus on Customers, Teams and Execution
In his first message as CEO, Leach emphasised the importance of listening to employees, customers and industry partners before shaping how the business moves forward.
He has also described building high-performing teams and world-class businesses as central to his leadership approach, with an emphasis on culture, product quality, customer outcomes and competing effectively in global markets.
These priorities align with the demands of a business serving commercial and government fleets, where reliability, compliance and operational performance are central to customer needs.
Building on EROAD's Connected Transport Foundation
EROAD has developed its business around technology designed for complex fleet environments, combining connected hardware, software and regulatory expertise.
The company serves customers across multiple markets and provides tools to help manage vehicles, drivers and assets with greater visibility and control.
David's arrival brings leadership experience from other global software businesses to this established foundation. As AI and connected technology continue to evolve, his focus on customer needs, team performance and disciplined execution will help shape EROAD's direction.
